Toward Unmasking the Dynamics of Visual Perception

چکیده
Fisch et al. report in this issue of Neuron the results of an investigation of the neural correlates of conscious perception. They find an early, dramatic, and long-lasting gamma response in high-level visual areas, when (and only when) a rapidly presented image is perceived.

متن کاملTranscranial magnetic stimulation in study of the visual pathway.
The authors critically reviewed experiments in which transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and repetitive TMS (rTMS) of the higher visual pathway were used. Topics include basic mechanisms of neural excitation by TMS and their relevance to the visual pathway (excitatory and inhibitory effects), TMS and rTMS of calcarine cortex (suppression, unmasking, and phosphenes), TMS of V5 (suppression),...

متن کاملReduction in V1 activation associated with decreased visibility of a visual target.
The perception of a brief visual target stimulus can be affected by another visual mask stimulus immediately preceding or following the target. The link of this visual masking illusion, with visual cortical activation, offers insights into the neural mechanisms for visual perception. The present study investigated the association of the visibility of a target with cortical activation in humans ...
